:I'm not going to predispose the explanation to only being the pulley, although there is a lot more evidence supporting that theory right now than any other explanation. I will need to look further into crankshaft harmonics and what the wear trends are for other engines that have run without harmonic dampeners. I feel that Nissan engineers (and engineers for most other car companies as well) put them on engines for a reason, and it would be reasonable to think that if you took them off, you'd lose the benefit that they provided. In other words, taking the harmonic damper off has to do something to the engine.
